Man held with 65 gold bars at Dhaka airport
Customs officials detained a man along with 65 gold bars, weighing around 6.5 kilogrammes, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday night.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials intercepted one Rajib Dewan, 35, while passing through the airport’s green channel, Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Customs House, told The Daily Star. Dewan arrived on a Singapore Airlines flight around 11pm, he added.
Initially, he denied possessing any taxable object and refused to cooperate, the customs official said. Later, they searched him and found the gold bars, worth around Tk 3.25 crore, hidden in his pant pockets.
