Manju, Shahidul made chairman, general secretary of JP (Manju)

Anwar Hossain Manju and Sheikh Shahidul Islam were re-elected chairman and general secretary respectively of Jatiya Party (Manju) at the party's triennial council at the capital's Institution of Engineers' Bangladesh yesterday.

Names of other members of the central committee will be announced later, M Salahuddin Ahmed, JP office secretary, told The Daily Star.

The inaugural session of the council was held in the morning amid festivity with Anwar Hossain Manju, also forest and environment minister, in the chair.

Over a thousand councillors and delegates attended the council with the theme "vow to materialise democracy, accountability, good governance and spirit of the Liberation War."

Leaders of different political parties including ruling Awami League, Samyabadi Dal and a faction of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal were present, among others, at the programme.

Some amendments were made to the party charter at the council.

From now on the term "general secretary" will be used in lieu of "secretary general."
