A 12-year-old domestic help fled from her employer's South Banasree residence in the capital yesterday morning failing to bear alleged severe torture frequently inflicted on her.

Some passers-by spotted the victim, Shilpi, on the road near Tongi Bridge unconscious at noon and admitted her to a local hospital.

After gaining consciousness, she narrated one of the pedestrians Abdul Aziz about how brutally she was tortured by "Sweety Begum".

Aziz later informed Khilgaon police of the incident prompting them to rush to Tongi. Afterwards, the law enforcers admitted the girl to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at night.

Police detained Sweety Begum, her husband Wahid Dhaly and another member of the family for interrogation.

Officer-in-Charge Kazi Mainul Islam said they found numerous marks of torture on the body of the girl, who had been working in businessman Wahid's residence for three years.

The girl also described her ordeal while talking to journalists at the DMCH last night.
