Mirza Fakhrul gets bail in vandalism case
A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case filed with Paltan Police Station on December 9, 2012 over hurling bombs and vandalism during a road blockade that day.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Mashud Sheikh also granted time petitions submitted for another 35 accused who cited different reasons for not being able to appear.
The court also fixed January 26, 2016 for hearing on charge framing against 74 leaders and activists of the then BNP-led 18-party alliance shown accused and of whom 39 were present yesterday.
Paltan police pressed the charges on August 19, 2014.
It says around 300 leaders and activists of the alliance brought out a procession from Fakirapool area towards BNP's Nayapaltan central office and threw bombs at police, leaving several injured, and vandalised vehicles.
