Awami League's candidate Saira Mohsin, widow of former social welfare minister Syed Mohsin Ali, has been officially declared elected lawmaker from Moulvibazar-3 constituency, as there was no other contender for the by-election scheduled for December 8.

Returning Officer SM Ezharul Haque rejected the nomination papers of four other contenders during scrutiny but none of them filed any appeal petition against the rejection.

The four contenders are Bangladesh Nationalist Front's candidate Md Ashraf Hosain, Jatiya Party (Ershad)'s candidate Syed Nurul Haque and independent candidates Suhel Ahmed and Khurshed Alom.

The constituency fell vacant as Mohsin Ali died at a Singapore hospital on September 14.
