National Film Day today
The National Film Day-2016 will be observed today in a under the auspices of the Information Ministry and the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).
The government along with various cultural organisations chalked out a daylong programme in observance of the day, said BFDC sources.
Meanwhile, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in separate messages yesterday greeted all artistes, technicians, directors, producers and others concerned, marking the day. The president and the prime minister recalled that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who, understanding the impact of films on society, tabled a bill in the provincial assembly of erstwhile East Pakistan for the formation of Film Development Corporation (FDC) on this day in 1957 as the then industries' and commerce minister. Hamid said film was a powerful medium and its role was immense in awareness building, and development of a society, and hoped that filmmakers would come forward to produce realistic and artistic movies upholding the spirit of the Liberation War. Sheikh Hasina said the government has taken multifarious programmes for the development of film industry, adding that her government has increased the amount of donation for making quality films and set up the Film and Television Institute to develop meritorious and efficient manpower for the industry. She also said that the government was planning to digitize film screening system and urged the filmmakers to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War through their movies and come forward to build a non-communal society free from prejudice as well as religious fanaticism.
