National Bar Association of Bangladesh (NBAB), a lawyers' organisation, has placed a five-point demand including a "complete separation" of judiciary from the executive.

NBAB President Shah Khasruzzaman raised the demands at a press conference at Law Reporters Forum office on the Supreme Court Bar Association premises on Wednesday.

He requested the government to deposit one percent of the court fees to the benevolent fund of the lawyers, and to transfer the power of providing legal aid to the poor from the district judges to the district bar associations.

Khasruzzaman also stressed the need for lawyers' unity to establish the rule of law and independence in their profession.

He sought assistance from the media in this regard.

NBAB leaders, including its Secretary General Sagir Anwar, were present at the function.
