Need law enforcers’ support to ensure it
Without support of law enforcers, it is not possible for the transportation sector to maintain health guidelines in public transports, said Moshiur Rahman Ranga, president of Bangladesh Transport Owner Association.
He made these remarks at a views-exchange session with journalists at Rangpur city's transport owners association office yesterday.
"We are trying our best to maintain the health guidelines, but in most cases, its not possible for us alone," he said.
He also urged the government to deploy more law enforcement members on the road, along with officials of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), to help enforce the guidelines.
Most people do not want to follow health guidelines on public transports, he said, adding that it's not always possible for transport workers to make passengers adhere to the tiles. Transport owners have given out strict instructions to workers to follow the guidelines, Ranga said.
Meanwhile, he also told journalists the public transport sector in the country has suffered an irreparable loss during the pandemic. In addition, the government is also being deprived of getting revenue from the sector.
"In such a circumstance, we urge the government to waive taxes for the sector," Ranga said.
Transport owners have also demanded Tk 25,000 crore incentive support from the government for the sector. Ranga reiterated the demand and urged the government to consider the proposal.
