Non-govt teachers demand inclusion in govt payscale

Teachers of non-government educational institutions yesterday demanded that the government include them in the upcoming national payscale.

Under the banner of "Shawdhinata Shikkhak Parishad", they also urged the government to fulfill its electoral promise to introduce a separate payscale for all the teachers.

At a press conference at Jatiya Press Club in the capital, they threatened to launch a tougher movement after Eid-ul-Fitr if their demands are not met by that time.

It is not possible to implement any policy without the cooperation of the non-government teachers as around 97 percent of education are provided in the institutions, said Shahjahan Alam Saju, general secretary of the parishad.

"We want the government to include us in the national payscale like the teachers and employees of the government schools and colleges," he said.

Prof Dr Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, president of the parishad, sought prime minister's intervention immediately to meet their demands.

MA Awal Siddique, Shahdat Hossain, and Shahidul Islam Biswas were, among others, present.
