One killed by falling pillar of abandoned building

A person died and at least eight were injured after a tin-roofed house collapsed when a concrete pillar of an abandoned building fell on it in Konabari of Gazipur yesterday afternoon.

The deceased is Hannan Mia, 35. The names and details of the injured could not be known immediately. 

A pillar fell on the adjoining house during demolishing work, said Shamsul Alam of Gazipur fire service.

Three units of Gazipur and Kaliakoir fire services rushed to the spot and conducted a rescue operation till 7:00pm, he said, adding, the injured were rushed to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital and local clinics.

Hannan died at the hospital, he added.
