Rab fines two pharmaceutical companies Tk 7 lakh

Rab yesterday fined two pharmaceutical companies Tk 7 lakh for producing unapproved antibiotics and substandard drugs in the capital's Kadamtali area.

A team of Rab-10 and drug administration officials found expired chemicals being used for producing antibiotics at Curex Pharmaceuticals Ltd, and fined its owner Mostafa Kamal Tk 5 lakh.

Sarwar Alam, Rab executive magistrate, said the factory was producing counterfeit veterinary drugs of global brands, adding, the factory, situated in a four-storey building, was locked from outside. The team confiscated outdated chemical substances, and ordered to shut down the factory.

The mobile court also fined Popy Pharmaceuticals (yunani) Tk 2 lakh for producing drugs in an unhygienic and dirty environment and ordered its owner Faruk Hossain to improve the factory environment in seven days.
