Rab man dies in road crash in capital

A Rapid Action Battalion member was killed as an unknown vehicle hit him in the capital's Uttara early yesterday.

Md Habibur Rahman, 41, was posted to the intelligence wing of Rab at its headquarters.

Police rushed him to a local hospital, said Abu Bakar Mia, officer-in-charge of Uttara (East) Police Station.

Later, he was shifted to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka where doctors declared him dead, said Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of Rab Legal and Media Wing.

Habibur joined Bangladesh Army on October 8, 1992 and was posted to Rab on August 11 last year, Rab sources said.

Our Jhenidah correspondent adds, two people were killed and a Jessore-bound passenger bus from Kushtia turned turtle as its driver lost control over the steering on Dhaka-Khulna highway before Kaliganj Mobarakganj sugar mills gate in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah yesterday, said police.

The deceased were Hashem Ali, 45, of Barobazar in Kaliganj, and Munsi Mia, 40, of Khulna, helper of the bus driver.

The injured were admitted to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex and Jessore Medical College Hospital.
