Rab seizes 500 grams of heroin from Mango basket in Dhaka courier service

Rapid Action Battalion seized 500 grams of heroin hidden inside a basket of mangoes and a pressure cooker from a courier service centre in Dhaka's Elephant Road area this morning.

Based on a tip-off, a team of Rab-2 conducted a raid at the courier service's offices around 9:30am and seized the amount of heroin worth Tk 50 lakh, said Muhammad Mohiuddin Faruqee, superintendent of police of Rab-2.

The Rab team lead by the SP also arrested the alleged traffickers -- married couple Habibur Rahman Babu (29) and Dilruba Dipa (27).

The couple, who live in Munshiganj at a rented house, have been trafficking heroin through courier packages of baby food, seasonal fruits, daily essentials and other items for a long time, the Rab official said, adding that they used to receive heroin worth Tk 50 lakhs to two crores per month through multiple parceled packages.

A case is being filed against the duo in this regard under the Narcotics Control Act with New Market Police Station.
