Residential Model College champion of Daffodil apps contest

Residential Model College yesterday became the champion of "WE CAN – Daffodil Apps Fellowship 2016", a software development competition for establishment of women's rights, empowerment and prevention of violence against them.

The five-member team developed the idea of an app which would help to change the negative perception towards women, said Anee Hamid, media and information officer, Amrai Pari Paribarik Nirjatan Protirodh Jot (WE CAN Alliance to End Domestic Violence).

North South University and Dhaka University achieved the second and third positions whereas Daffodil International University (DIU) and the Military Institute of Science and Technology bagged the fourth and fifth positions at the prize giving ceremony at DIU in the capital.

Their apps included issues relating to government help lines, legal aid and family support, she informed.

Ninety-six groups of students registered for the fellowship, of which 22 groups were selected for trainings on app development. Nine groups qualified for the final, according to a press release by WE CAN.

The first prize was Tk 2 lakh, second Tk 1.5 lakh, third Tk 1 lakh and fourth and fifth Tk 25,000 each.

Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman was present as the chief guest at the prize giving ceremony, along with Sultana Kamal, chairperson of WE CAN Alliance, Md Sabur Khan, chairman of DIU trustee board, and teachers and professionals from different organisations.
