Over 10 months after his arrest, BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was finally freed from jail on bail last night.

The BNP leader walked out of Kashimpur Central Jail-2 around 5:20pm after his bail order reached the jail authorities, Jail Super Prashanta Kumar Banik told The Daily Star.

His family members, including his wife, and some BNP leaders and activists received Rizvi at the jail gate.

Talking to The Daily Star, Rizvi said he would first go to his residence in the capital's Shymoli and then meet BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at night.

Earlier on November 24, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court order that granted him bail in two arson cases filed against him and others over a petrol bomb attack on a bus in Chauddagram upazila of Comilla during the BNP-led alliance's anti-government movement early this year.

On November 2, the HC granted ad-interim bail to the BNP leader in the two cases.

He got bail in other cases earlier. Rizvi was arrested on January 31.
