Road crashes kill 6
Six people were killed in road accidents in the country yesterday and on Thursday.
Our Rajshshi correspondent reports, three youths died as their motorbike veered out of control and hit an oncoming bus at Tarapur in Puthia yesterday.
Locals alleged that a policeman hit one of the youths with a baton as they were speeding away instead of stopping at a police check-post which caused the motorcyclist to lose his control.
The locals blocked Rajshahi-Dhaka highway for two hours demanding actions against policemen and withdrawal of the check-post claiming that it is being used to extort money from passengers. Police dispersed them by charging baton.
Denying the allegation of hitting the riders, police said the check-post has been set up to check vehicles and drivers who do not have necessary documents.
The dead were Mehedi Hasan, Shuvo and Sumon, of Natore district.
Our Bogra correspondent reports, a construction labour, Shabash Ali, 45, of Purbapara area, died as a truck ran him over at Nandigram bus stand on Bogra-Natore highway in Nandigram municipality in Bogra yesterday. Police seized the truck.
Our Pabna correspondent adds, two persons died as their motorbike veered out of control after hitting a tree, lying on the road, in Chilgasa of Sirajganj Sadar upazila during Thursday night's storm.
Md Jahangir Hossain, 35, and Anisur Rahman, 37, of Kazipur upazila, were handicraft traders.
