RU BCL men confine youth for extortion
Bangladesh Chhatra League activists confined a private university student to a dormitory room at Rajshahi University for more than 24 hours and tortured him physically and mentally, between Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening.
They demanded Tk 50,000 in exchange for his release, said the victim, Jahangir Alam, a graduate of Ahsanullah Science and Technology University in Dhaka.
He filed a case against his captors with Motihar Police Station yesterday. The Daily Star did not get the names of the persons accused immediately.
Meanwhile, the BCL men also threatened the RU correspondent of the Bangla daily Jugantor, Hasan Adib, yesterday for reporting the confinement and torture.
Jahangir said he was also forced to get married to his girlfriend on the campus and was extorted Tk 20,000 which he had with him at the moment.

Abdullah Al Masud and some activists picked him up around 5:30pm when he was chatting with his girlfriend at the Habibur Rahman Hall playground.
He had been confined to room no. 141 at Madar Bux Hall till 8:30pm on Sunday when the proctor and police rescued him. Jahangir, who left for home in Naogaon, said his girlfriend, a first-year Bangla honours student of Rajshahi College, hired the BCL men to get married to him. The Daily Star could not talk to her.
Meanwhile, RU unit of BCL recommended to the central committee for expulsion of the leaders and activists involved in the incident.
