SC clears way for trial of Dulu

The Supreme Court yesterday cleared the way for the lower court to resume the trial proceedings against former BNP minister Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu in a corruption case.

The Appellate Division of the SC overturned a High Court verdict that had scrapped the trial proceedings of the case against Dulu.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by the Anti Corruption Commission challenging the HC verdict.

ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that the ACC filed the case with Adabor Police Station on April 19, 2007 against Dulu on a  charge of amassing wealth worth Tk 13.80 crore beyond his known sources of income.

Following a petition filed by Dulu, the HC on July 18, 2012 quashed the trial proceedings of the case.

Later, the ACC filed the appeal with the SC challenging the HC judgment, said the ACC lawyer. The special judge's court will now resume the trial proceedings of the case against the BNP leader, he added.
