Sher-e-Bangla's anniversary of death today

The 54th death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque will be observed today with due respect.

Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque, popularly known as Sher-e-Bangla, died on April 27, 1962.

Various socio-political organisations have planned elaborate programmes, including placing wreaths and offering fateha at his grave, a milad mahfil and discussions, reports UNB.

BSS reports, the president and prime minister conveyed their respects towards the eminent nationalist. President Abdul Hamid said Sher-e-Bangla was a wise political leader and recalled different steps taken by him, including the formation of the Debt Settlement Board, for the welfare of the repressed and exploited farmers. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "It was the movement led by him that culminated in the Land Tenancy Act."
