Subinay Nandy no more

Former UN officer Dr Subinay Nandy passed away at a New York hospital on Saturday, said a press release.

Born in Habiganj in 1955, Dr Subinay, younger brother of the late singer Subir Nandy, started his career as UNDP Bangladesh's Head of Environment.

He was UNDP's Deputy Country Director in Vietnam, Country Director in China, UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka and Director (Asia-Pacific) at the UN Department of Political Affairs. He also taught at the New York City University after retirement.

He was clinically dead for months after a massive heart attack and brain damage. His funeral will be held tomorrow in New York.
