Superintendent suspended for ticket scalping

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi

Superintendent of Rajshahi Railway Station was suspended on Friday for his alleged involvement in ticket scalping.

The official, Abdul Karim, was not available for comments.

The suspension order was faxed to Rajshahi in the evening, said Khairul Alam, general manager of Bangladesh Railway (West Zone).

Abdul Karim was found guilty of similar offence by an enquiry team during Eid-ul-Azha last year, Alam said, adding that but no action was taken against him at that time.

He, however, could not say the reason behind the inaction.

The railway station sources said there was an artificial crisis of tickets before and after Eid every year and the passengers filed a number of complaints of harassment with the station in this regard.
