Sylhet youth held over 'anti-state' Facebook posts

A madrasa student was arrested at Beanibazar in Sylhet on Friday evening for anti-state and anti-government posts on Facebook, said police.

Jahed Ahmed Murad, 18, is the son of freedom fighter Siraj Uddin of Beanibazar and a higher secondary level student of Angurabad Madrasa.

Apu Kumar Das Gupta, sub-inspector of Beanibazar Police Station, said they came to know of his Facebook posts being tipped off by local people.

"We are not sure about his political involvement, but we have enough evidence to file sedition charges against him," he said adding, "After a thorough investigation, we will decide whether to file a sedition case."  The youth was sent to jail.
