Two killed, two injured in N’ganj septic tank explosion

Two including a child were killed and two others injured in a septic tank explosion at Ramarbagh in Narayanganj Sadar upazila yesterday.

The deceased are Jisan Miah (13), and Razzak Hossoin (32), a garment worker. The injured -- Sakib (10) and Sayeeda Begum (35) -- were undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The victims are not from the same family, according to locals.

The explosion took place at a building in the area around 11am, Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Narayanganj told this newspaper.

In critical conditions, all the four were rushed to the hospital where Jisan and Razzak succumbed to their injuries, said Arefin.

The septic tank has not been cleaned for a long time, and the gas accumulated inside it might have caused the blast, the fire service official said.
