Two youths arrested on rape charges

Police yesterday arrested two youths for raping a 35-year-old woman in Khulna's Dumuria upazila.

Asabur Rahman Ashiq (23) and Raihan Ghazi (23) were arrested from Chuknagar area in the upazila in the morning.

Police said on Wednesday evening the woman was talking to one of her relatives in Chuknagar. At that time, the two accused youths grabbed and confined her to a room in a mill.

The law enforcers said they later demanded Tk 40,000 as ransom. As she could not pay, they raped her. They later released her at night. The next morning, she filed a case with Dumuria Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge Md Obaidur Rahman told The Daily Star that the youths were sent to jail after being produced before a court.
