A teacher of International Islamic University Chittagong was allegedly beaten up by some students on its Dhanmondi campus in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Assistant Prof Noman Siddikee took treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Siddikee yesterday told The Daily Star that some students involved in "Islami Chhatra Shibir's activities" attacked him as he complained about their acts of "indiscipline".

Instigated by another teacher, the students, mostly of marketing and law, beat him up with iron rods and sticks in his office, said Siddikee.

Proctor Mokhter Ahmad said he came to know that a student along with his friends assaulted Siddikee as he slapped him. "We will take action against the students responsible," he added. A case was filed.
