Ustad Sunil Dhar no more

Ustad Sunil Kumar Dhar, one of the most prominent classical music maestros of the country died of a heart attack at a city hospital Thursday. He was 87.

He left behind his wife, two sons, two daughters, a host of followers, admirers and relatives to mourn him.

Sunil Dhar had been suffering from different old-age complications including heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure for long. He was admitted at a city hospital on Thursday morning, where he died around 9pm.

He was cremated at Balashpur Cremation Ground in Mymensingh city, said family sources.

Born in Muktagacha in 1933, he received tutelage of the legendary Ustad Allauddin Khan.

He also took lessons from Jagadananda Barua on Dhrupad and Dhamar.
