Withdraw Rajshahi mayor's suspension

BNP leaders in Rajshahi yesterday demanded withdrawal of the government's order suspending city Mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul.

At a press conference in the party's Bhubon Mohon Park office, the leaders condemned suspension of the elected mayor and termed the government's move undemocratic.

They threatened to wage a movement against the government if the suspension order is not withdrawn immediately.

The party's district unit General Secretary Kamrul Monir and Joint Secretary Alauddin Ahmed were, among others, present.

During the news conference, police were attempting to raid the party office and the leaders left the spot without replying to the reporters' queries.

The government on Thursday suspended Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul as he was charged in a court with several criminal cases.

The Local Government Division of the LGRD ministry issued a circular on his suspension in the afternoon and sent it to the chief executive officer of the RCC.
