Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said the government would start the construction of a 695km road soon along the country's border.

The minister made the comment at the inaugural ceremony for two bridges across Inani Borokhal and Chhotokhal on Marine Drive in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar.

Quader said the border road would help Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) play an important role in stopping arms and drugs smuggling, human trafficking from and to neighbouring countries.

Tourism will see a boost as well for the road which is estimated to cost Tk 3,302 crore, he said.

He said the widening of Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Highway into four lanes would start soon.
