A rights organisation today filed a writ petition with the High Court, seeking its directives on the authorities concerned to refund the money and fees collected from patients who were cheated by Regent Hospital in regards to Covid-19 test and treatment.

Children Charity Bangladesh Foundation (CCBF), represented by its director Advocate Ishrat Hasan, lodged the writ petition as a public interest litigation through email, also requesting the court to order the authorities to give Tk 25,000 as interim relief to each of the patients victimised by Regent Hospital.

In the petition, the rights body prayed to the HC to ask the health and home secretaries, director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and managing director of Regent Hospital to make a list of the persons who got fake reports from the hospital, and to publish a list of the names of the hospitals and diagnostic centres that have legal license to conduct Covid-19 tests.

Barrister Md Abdul Halim, who submitted the petition to the HC as lawyer of the rights organisation, also requested the court to direct the authorities to take necessary measures to monitor the activities of the hospitals and diagnostic centres at upazila level, regarding the test and treatment of patients.

Advocate Ishrat Hasan told The Daily Star that the High Court may virtually hold hearing on the writ petition any day this week.
