10 hurt as Jubo League, BCL men clash

At least 10 people were injured and five shops vandalised during a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL and Jubo League in Habiganj town on Friday night.

Locals said the BCL men, led by Habiganj Municipality unit president Obaidur Rahman, and the Jubo League activists, led by Ruhul Amin, locked in the clash in the staff quarters area at around 9:00pm over establishing their supremacy in the area.

The supporters of the two, equipped with iron rods, hockey sticks and sharp weapons swooped on each, leaving at least 10 people from both sides injured.

Five shops were also vandalised in the area during the clash that continued for half and hour.  Being informed, police rushed to the spot fired tear gas shells rubber bullets to disperse the clashing groups.

The Injured were admitted to Sadar Upazila Heath Complex and  Sadar Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge Md Nazim Uddin of Sadar Police Station said police have been deployed in the area to avert any further incident.
