105 sued over AL-Jubo League clash in Sylhet

Two cases have been filed, accusing 105 people in connection with a clash between two factions of ruling party that left at least 15 people injured in Gualabazar area under Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet district on Saturday.

Around 8:00pm, the men of Alfazur Rahman Chowdhury, general secretary of Osmaninagar upazila unit of AL, and Altafur Rahman Sohel, general secretary of the upazila unit of Jubo League, locked in an altercation over arranging a meeting organised by Sramik League in the area.

At one stage, the rival groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, leaving at least 15 people from both sides injured, said police.

Sramik League men also vandalised a few shops in front of Shadimahal Community Centre in the area during the incident.

Five of them were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.

Nabedur Rahman Chowdhury, brother of AL leader Alfazur Rahman, filed a case with Osmaninagar Police Station against 50 people, including Jubo League leader Sohel, on Sunday night.

The following day, Sohel filed another case, accusing 25 named and 30 unnamed men.

Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to avert any further trouble, said Md Murshalin, officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station.
