11 arrested while going to India illegally

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 11 Bangladeshi nationals while they were going to India illegally through Putkhali border under Benapole Port Police Station on Wednesday night.

Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of the border guards went there around 10:00pm and arrested 11 people, who were crossing the border without valid documents, said Tajul Islam, sub-inspector of Benapole Port Police Station.  

The arrestees are from Barisal and Gopalganj districts.

They were later handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was filed against them, the SI added.

Meanwhile, two Bangladeshi girls returned home after serving jail terms in India.

Indian police handed them over to the Bangladeshi immigration police at Benapole check post. The returnees hail from different villages in Digholia upazila of Khulna.

Moniruzzaman, officer in-charge of Benapole check post immigration police, said the girls went to India in search of better jobs.

Police arrested them from an Indian town and sent them to jail through a court.
