1,223 to vie for 235 mayoral posts

A total of 1,223 mayoral candidates have submitted their nomination forms to contest elections to 235 municipalities on December 30.

The number of candidates for general councillors is 9, 798 and women councillors (reserved seats) is 2, 668.

The total number of aspirants is 13, 689.

Elections to 235 municipalities will be held on December 30, marking the start of the country's first local government polls on partisan lines.

Different parties have already finalised their nominated candidates for the polls.
