2 die inhaling toxic gas

A woman and a youth died from toxic gas inhalation inside a septic tank in Shinghapara area of Matiranga upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased are Mariyam Bibi, 40, wife of Mohammad Sghiraj Mia, and her relative Mohammad Mir Hossain, 23, son of Mohammad Abu Tahar of the area.

The cellphone of Mokhles Uddin, elder son of Mariyam, accidentally fell into the toilet pan at their house at around 9:30am.

As Mariyam got inside the septic tank to collect the mobile phone, she fainted within a few seconds due to inhaling of toxic gas.

Getting no response from Mariyam for sometime, Mir Hossain got inside the septic tank to rescue her, but he also fell unconscious, said the OC.

They were taken to the hospital where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.
