3 jailed for selling false stamps in Dinajpur
A court here yesterday sentenced two men to life imprisonment while another to 10 years in jail for storing and selling false stamps.
The convicts are Ibrahim Hossain, 55, son of Joynal Abedin of Eidgah Residential area in the district town, and owner of Bhai Bhai Stamp Vendor, Mahbubur Rahman, 40, son of Afsar Ali of Dinajpur Satellite town, and Ayub Ali, 35, son of Riaz Uddin of Sokhair village in Biral upazila.
Senior Judge Mahmudul Karim of Dinajpur District and Sessions Judge Court-2 also fined them Tk 50,000 each. In default, they are to suffer another one year in prison.
According to the prosecution, members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dinajpur, acting on a tip-off, raided Bhai Bhai Stamp Vendor in Court area of the town on December 26 in 2002 and seized false stamps worth Tk 4 lakh.
Later, an official of CID filed a case, accusing the three in this connection.
Away in Bogra, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a youth from Shandhabari village in Gabtoli upazila early Tuesday on charge of keeping 43 passports in his possession illegally.
The arrestee is Atiqur Rahman Atik, 30, son of Abed Ali of the village, reports our correspondent.
