30 fined for smoking in public

A mobile court in a drive fined 30 people for smoking in public spots throughout the district on Monday. The court, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Torofdar Mohammad Aktar Jamil and Executive Magistrate Abu Taher Sayeed, conducted the drive on the Deputy Commissioner's Office premises, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court premises, Zila Sadar Hospital premises and Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College campus area. During the drive, the court fined each person Tk 50 for smoking in a public place, in violation of the existing law. Additional Deputy Commissioner Torofdar Mohammad Aktar Jamil and Executive Magistrate Abu Taher Sayeed confirmed the incident.
