4 of a family hurt in land dispute

Four women of a family were injured over a land dispute in Zianagar upazila under the district yesterday morning. The injured are, Amirunnesa, 65, wife of Nurul Islam Kazi of Charani Pattashi village, her two daughters-in-law Ruma Begum, 25, and Nurunnahar, 32, and granddaughter Humayra, 15. Amirunnesa's son Abdul Alim said a group of 15/16 men led by one Abdul Jobber of Kismat Jamua village of neighbouring Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat went to cut paddy from a disputed land owned by their family. As none of the male members of the family were absent at home, the four women tried to prevent the gang from cutting the paddy. At one stage, Jobber's men beat the four mercilessly and fled the spot with the looted paddy, he said.
