41 BNP-Jamaat men among 75 arrested in 3 districts

At least 75 people, including 41 BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men were held in Jhenidah, Chapainawabganj and Satkhira districts yesterday and the day before.

A joint force in separate drives arrested at least 24 activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in six upazilas of Jhenidah in the last two days, reports our correspondent.

Of the arrestees, 11 are from Sadar upazila, five from Kaliganj upazila, three from Shailakupa upazila, two from Harinakundo upazila, two from Moheshpur upazila and one BNP activist from Kotchandpur upazila.

They were arrested on charge of planning subversive activities in the areas, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Ajbahar Ali Sheikh.

In Chapainawabganj, at least 22 people, including five BNP and Jamaat men, were held in different upazilas of the district yesterday and the day before, reports our correspondent.

The arrestees include Sayema Khatun, vice chairman of Shibganj Upazila Parishad, and organising secretary of the district unit of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.

She was arrested in an extortion case, said Moinul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station.

Police arrested 21 others in several cases, according to police control room of SP office.

Away in Satkhira, the law enforcers arrested 29 people including 12 Jamaat activists from eight upazilas of the district on Sunday, reports UNB.

They were arrested on sabotage charges, said Enamul Haque, sub-inspector of Satkhira district police.

Kalaroa upazila, two from Tala upazila, five from Kaliganj upazila, two from Ashashuni upazila, two from Debhata, three from Patkelghata and one from Shymnagar upazila.
