42 shops gutted in Comilla, Pirojpur

At lest 42 shops were gutted in separate fire incidents in Comilla and Pirojpur districts yesterday

According to a correspondent, fire destroyed 30 shops at Khan Market in Gouripur Bazar area under Daudkandi upazila of Comilla in the morning.

Mohammad Farid Ahmed, deputy assistant director of Comilla Fire Service, said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a readymade garments shop of one Alamin at around 6:00am and soon engulfed 29 adjoining shops.

On information, fire fighting units from Comilla, Chandina, Homna, and Daudkandi rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze at around 9:00am.

In Pirojpur, 12 shops were gutted in a fire in bus terminal area in the town early yesterday, reports our correspondent.

Affected shop owners said the fire originated from a hotel at around 1:30am and soon spread to the adjacent shops.

Being informed, Fire fighters went to the spot and brought the fire under control at around 2:10am.
