Arms, ammo, gunpowder seized in C'nawabganj
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members in separate drives arrested four people along with pistols, bullets, gunpowder and a fake note in Shibganj and Gommostapur upazilas on Monday night.
The arrestees are Sohel Rana, 22, of Bazaarpara village, Mujibur Rahman, 43, of Telkupi village, and Abu Bakkar, 33, and Abu Hanjal, 25, of Guptamanik village in the upazila.
ASP Alok Biswas of Rab-5 in Chapainawabganj said a team of the elite force, acting on a tip-off, raided Umarpur village and arrested Sohel and Mujibur while they were waiting for their buyers around 8:00pm.
Rab searched them and recovered two pistols, four magazines and 13 bullets from their possessions, the ASP said.
Another team of Rab-5, being tipped-off, conducted a drive in Guptamanik-Gounatola area around 10:30pm and detained Abu Bakkar and Abu Hanjal along with 9.5 kg of gunpowder, six bullets, a magazine and a counterfeit note of Tk 1000, the ASP added.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to their involvement in supplying arms and explosives to the capital and other parts of the country, Rab said.
Rab filed two separate cases under the Arms Act and handed the four to Shibganj Police Station.
In Gomostapur, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members of Rokonpur border observation post seized a pistol and a bullet from Nagorpara Ghat around 1:00am, said Lt Col Zahid Hasan, commanding officer of BGB 43 Battalion in Naogaon.
