Arms peddlers held with pistols, bullets

Two alleged arms peddlers were arrested in Shibganj and Nachole upazilas of the district on Monday and the day before.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested an alleged arms trader with two pistols, 12 bullets and four magazines in Mohodipur area in Shibganj upazila on Monday afternoon.

The arrestee is Rezaul Islam, 34, son of late Makbul Hossain of Uzirpur village in the upazila.

Tipped-off, a team of Rab-5 raided Mohodipur area around 4:00pm and arrested Rezaul with the firearms and bullets.

Later, the arrestee was handed over to Shibganj Police Station, said Assistant Police Superintendent Alok Biswas of Chapainawabganj Rab camp.

A case was filed in this connection.

Meanwhile, Rab arrested another arms peddler from Nachole bus stand area in the district on Sunday night.

They also seized a pistol, six bullets and two magazines from his possession, said the ASP.

The arrestee is Sohel Rana, 22, son of Nazrul Islam of Dakkhin Laxmipur village in Porsha upazila under Naogaon district.

On secret information, the elite force raided the area at 7:55pm and arrested Sohel with the firearm and bullets.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrestee admitted that he had been involved in arms peddling for long, said ASP Alok.

He was later handed over to Nachole Police Station. A case was filed in this connection.
