BGB, smugglers clash on Hili border, two injured
Two smugglers were injured in a clash between their cohorts and members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Hili border in Hakimpur upazila yesterday.
To avoid arrests, injured Sayan Islam, 19, and Monir Hossain, 22, of Fakirpara village in the upazila, are allegedly receiving treatments at a private clinic in Rangpur district town secretly.
On secret information, a team of the border guards challenged a group of smugglers while they were entering the country through the border along with smuggled goods around 5:00am.
Failing to flee the scene, the gang attacked the BGB troops with sharp weapons. At one stage, Monir was injured mistakenly by one of his fellows during the attack.
The BGB men later charged batons to bring the situation under control, leaving Sayan injured, said Major Nasir Imam Rumi of BGB 3 Battalion in Joypurhat.
