Case for Vandalising Vehicles During Blockade

Charges pressed against 26 Tangail BNP men

Charges have been pressed against 26 leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies in the case for vandalising vehicles at Ghatail upazila headquarters in January this year.

Sub-Inspector Taijul Islam, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet to Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court, Tangail, on May 15. The court accepted the charge sheet on June 11 and Ghatail police disclosed it to local newsmen on Monday.

BNP Ghatail upazila unit general secretary Rezaul Karim, organising secretary Shamim Khan, Ghatail municipality unit general secretary Faruk Hossain, organising secretary Shamim Sarker, Jubo Dal Gatail upazila unit president Rafiqul Islam Dulal, and municipality unit president Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan, are among the accused.

According to the case statement, the leaders and activists of the upazila unit of BNP and its associate bodies vandalised a good number of vehicles at Ghatail College intersection during the blockade enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance on January 11.

Rajob Ali, the then sub-Inspector of Ghatail Police station, filed a case the same day, accusing 89 leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies.

After investigation, IO Taijul Islam submitted a charge sheet to the court against 26 out of 89 accused.
