Cop beats up female schoolteacher

A constable of Government Railway Police (GRP) beat up a female schoolteacher at Amnura Railway Station in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday.

The victim is Kulsum Nahar Rani, 25, a teacher at Kendul Government Primary School in Sadar upazila.

Witnesses and Khairul Islam, stationmaster of Amnura railway station, said Kulsum Nahar's brother Moinuddin went to Amnura railway station for receiving his two friends at around noon.

He had an argument with a ticket checker and pushed him at one stage. The ticket checker complained to GRP constable Mosharraf Hossain about the matter. Mosharraf beat up Moinuddin and took him to their police box.

Later, the stationmaster, a sub-inspector and locals tried to solve the problem, but suddenly Kulsum Nahar entered the room and locked in an altercation with  Mosharraf. At one stage, she became furious and hit him with her sandal. The constable hit her with a metal detector, leaving her seriously injured.

She was rushed to Chapainawabganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital. As her condition deteriorated, the on-duty doctor referred her to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
