Fire at Ashulia footwear factory

A fire that broke out at a footwear factory in Narsinghapur area of Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka this afternoon has come under control.

The two-storey tin-shed factory, owned by Akij Footwear Ltd, caught fire around 5:30pm, said Dipak Chandra Saha, inspector at Ashulia Police station.

The fire came under control around 8:20pm. Firefighters are at present tryingto dampen the rest of the fire. Fourteen units of firefighters were trying to bring the fire under control, Nilufar Yasmin, a duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, told The Daily Star.

The fire department official, however, could not ascertain the cause of the fire and the losses immediately.
