Health sub-centre premises under illegal occupation

Some local influential people have illegally occupied areas of newly constructed Shovaganj health sub-centre in Sundarganj upazila under the district, causing hindrance to the start of its functioning.  

To meet locals' longstanding demand for provide medical facilities in the densely populated area, the government allocated a fund of Tk 1.20 crore for the construction of the health centre with boundary walls and adjoining road in 2013-14 fiscal year.

The contractor concerned completed a two-storey building of the centre last year, but they are yet to start work of the road and boundary walls, as local influential land grabbers have occupied surrounding areas and constructed permanent structures there.

Local people have demanded immediate eviction of illegal occupants from the health sub-station premise.

Gaibandha civil surgeon and Sundarganj upazila health and family planning officer have already brought the matter to the notice of the upazila administration and other authorities concerned, urging immediate eviction of the illegal occupants from the place of health sub-centre.

Lawmaker of Gaibandha-1 constituency Monjurul Islam Liton also asked the authorities concerned for immediate removal of the illegal structures from health sub-centre premise.

Abdul Hye Milton, upazila nirbahi office of Sundarganj, said, "We are going to take steps in this regard soon."
