Housewife beaten to death for dowry

A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Sonaton kathi village under Sharsha upazila of Jessore district on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Sheuli Khatun, 22, wife of Md Rashed Ali of the village.

Quoting the victim's family members, police said Rashed Ali, son of Siddique Hossain, married Sheuli Khatun, daughter of Hasan Ali of Sangkorpur village of Jessore town, seven years ago.

Rashed Ali and his family members had been demanding dowry from Sheuli's parents since the marriage and often tortured Sheuli for it.

During an altercation over the issue on Sunday night, Rashed and his family members beat up Sheuli mercilessly, leaving her dead.

Later, they told locals that Sheuli committed suicide.

Being informed, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body  and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
