Housewife strangled, another kills herself

A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband at Khamarkandi village in Sherpur upazila of the district on Saturday night.

The deceased is Joynab Begum, 25, daughter of Tamiz Uddin of the village.

Victim's brother Ansar Ali said Joynab's husband Abdur Rouf, a resident of the same village, used to torture his sister over trifling matter since their marriage three years back.

The couple had an altercation over lighting a candle during a power-cut around 9:00pm,

At one stage, Rouf strangled Joynab. He took her to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex and told doctors that she tried to commit suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling of their house. The doctors at the hospital declared her dead.

Receiving a complaint from the victim's family, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Ziur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Away in Thakurgaon, police recovered the body of a newlywed housewife from Kaharpara village in Sadar upazila on Saturday night.  

The deceased is Anju Ara, 25, wife of Dulu Hossain, 32, a resident of the village, reports our correspondent.

Quoting local people police said the couple got married just a few months ago. After returning home from a local market around 8:00pm, the couple had an altercation over buying a saree. At one stage, Dulu went out of his house for a cup of tea at a nearby tea stall.

Around 9:00pm, Anju hanged herself from the ceiling of her room with a scarf.

Nilufa Begum, mother of the deceased, however, claimed that Anjur was often tortured by her in-laws' for dowry.
