Jatra stage removed for holding obscene dances

Local administration takes action against anti-social act

Local administration yesterday removed a stage meant for jatra (open air drama) at Teesta River char Kutirpara village in Aditmari upazila where obscene dances and gambling were going on unabated.

Locals said a gang, allegedly led by one Abdul Haque, arranged obscene dances and gambling in the name of jatra at the village.

Despite repeated requests, police remained inactive in this regard as they took Tk 20,000 as bribe for every night from the gang, they alleged.

Being informed, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jahurul Islam with the help of village police rushed to the spot at noon and revoved the jatra stage, said Mosaddeque Hossain Chowdhury, chairman of Mahichkhocha Union Parishad .

Contacted, the UNO confirmed the incident of vandalism.

However, Abdus Sobhan, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Aditmari Police Station, declined to make any comment in this regard.
