Jubo League leader shot dead in Comilla

A Jubo League leader was shot dead by unidentified criminals at Padua intersection on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Chauddagram upazila of the district on Friday night.

The deceased, Jamal Uddin, 38, son of Ali Ahmed of Kulasar village, was president of Alkora union unit of Jubo League, youth wing of the ruling Awami League.

Quoting locals, police said unidentified criminals waylaid Jamal at the intersection around 9:30pm and took him to a nearby under construction shop.

They severed the tendons of both his hands and legs, fired two bullets at him and left the scene.

Critically injured Jamal was taken to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.

Police said Jamal was an accused in the case for killing Nurul Alam, former member of the union parishad.

Contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Farhad of Chauddagram Police Station said none had filed any case in this connection.

Jamal might have been killed over previous enmity, the OC added.
